2) Lots of ridiculous debates! No two historians are likely to produce the same response.
3) Historical records from that time period are sparse, but none mention any negative effects: only the great boon that the Ingress provided to the newly settled worlds. Similarly, Miller will have trouble finding further reference to the "Living Energy"; most people on the streets will have no idea what that means, or wave the reference off as "some kind of special Ingress energy". The founders would have been the original creators of the Ingress, and forefathers of many of those currently viewed as the "Savrii". These are not the tentacle-faced people (nor are most of the current Savrii -- that's merely one of the many species that makes up the population).
4) Without providing a comprehensive list (we'd have to write an actual history book for that!), a few examples are as follows:
A couple centuries after Thisavrou's founding, a group of humanoids called Sli'arth made their way through the Ingress. Their species was nomadic, but also warlike and aggressive, used to laying claim to whatever resources they could possess in a much more hostile environment. They initially clashed with the Savrii, but once communications could be opened, were made aware of the plentiful availability of resources and the willingness of the Savrii to grant them shelter from their hardships here. They settled in their own area on Kauto, and eventually mingled and became one with the larger Savrii population.
A merchant collective called the Nargaskul became aware of Thisavrou, and attempted to leverage their trade interests into economic control of Thisavrou's resources. While they were warned and rebuffed gently at first, they continued attempting to expand their influence to the Ingress, and brought individuals who had been forced into slavery to the planet. The slaves who had come to Thisavrou were freed, and the Nargaskul deported forcibly through the Ingress. No further contact was made with their worlds.
